Return of Youth

“I attended a concert a few years back and one of the artists an elderly man whom I hadn’t met for a long time. This man inspired me to write this tune by how well he looked and played.”

“D’fhreastalaíos ar cheolchoirm tamall de bhlianta ó shin agus bhí fear go maith san aois ar dhuine des na healaíontóirí a bhí ag glacadh páirte.  Níor casadh orm é le tamall roimhe sin agus spreag sé mé leis an bport seo a chumadh, mar go raibh cuma na maitheasa air agus as fheabhas a chuid seinnte ar an oíche.”

The Man from the Island

“Lios Buí is a townland in Cill Na Martra which is sometimes referred to as the “Island” due to it being surrounded by a river and streams.  A great friend of mine Danny O’Connell, with whom I travelled all over the country to Fleadhanna, Festivals and music weekends lives there.  I wrote this tune in his honour.”

“Baile fearainn i gCill na Martra isea Lios Buí.  Tugtar an t-oileán air go háitiúil toisc go bhfuil sé timpeallaithe ag aibhneacha agus srutháin.  Maireann cara mór liom, Dónal Ó Connaill, anseo agus tá an bheirt againn tar éis a bheith ar fuaid na tíre ag fleadhanna, féilte agus deireadh seachtainí ceoil. Chumas an port seo in onóir do Dhónal.”

The Choir Master

“I had the pleasure to be in Cúil Aodha Church at the launch of a C.D. by Cór Chúil Aodha and Peadar Ó Riada at the end of 2012.  I was so impressed with the concert on the night and with the C.D. later that it left no doubt in my mind, but that Peadar is a great composer and choir master. So in my own small way I pinned this tune to honour him.”

“Bhí sé de phirbhléid agam a bheith i Séipéal Chúil Aodha ag seoladh an dlúthdhiosca le Cór Chúil Aodha agus Peadar Ó Riada ag deireadh na bliana 2012.  Bhíos chomh tógtha leis an oíche agus leis an taifead féin go rabhas níos siúráilte ná riamh faoin mbua atá ag Peadar i gcumadóireacht agus i stiúrthóireacht cheoil.   Im’ shlí bheag féin, scríobhas an port seo in onóir dho.”

“Molly’s Cross is four cross roads situated at the foot of Cathair Daithí hill It was named after a woman who had a shop there, she was also known as ‘Molly the roads’.”
