Fear na Lúibíní Hornpipe

Fear na Lúibíní

“The first person to persuade and drag me along to an All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Enniscorthy was Seán Ó Muimhneacháin way back in 1967.  It was my first time hearing traditional music and seeing it being played by so many musicians from all parts of the country and further afield.

Personally it started me on a very enjoyable musical journey that has lasted me down through the years.

Since then Seán also got involved in writing songs as Gaeilge and Lúibíní, winning many prizes at All Ireland level.  With all this in mind, I composed this tune in his honour.”

[note:  A Lúibín is a dialogue in verse form, sung by two performers with a chorus of nonsense syllables and the last line of the verse.  It is often comic in nature]

Fear na Lúibíní

“B’é Seán Ó Muimhneacháin a mheall agus a thug mé go dtí Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann don gcéad uair riamh sa bhliain 1967, in Inis Córthaigh, Co. Loch Garman.  B’é seo an chéad uair agam ceol traidisiúnta a chlos á sheinnt ag an oiread sin ceoltóirí ó gach cairn den tír agus níos faide ó bhaile.  Go pearsanta, b’é an tosach agam é, ar aistear ceolmhar taitneamhach a mhair anuas trí na blianta ón am sin i leith.

Ó shin, is mó agallamh beirte, amhrán agus lúibín atá cumtha ag Seán.  Tá mórán duaiseanna buaite aige ag an Oireachtas agus ag Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann mar aitheantas ar fheabhas a shaothair.  Chumas an port seo in onóir do Sheán.”
