The Flax Pond Slip Jig

The Flax Pond

“In the 1950s and 60s growing flax was very profitable and popular in this area. Part of the harvesting process was water retting which was to immerse the flax in water for up to two weeks.  A special pond had to be dug for this purpose hence the name ‘The Flax Pond’.”

Loch an  Lín

“Ins na caogadaí agus na seascaidí bhí daoine gnóthach ag fás lín mar go raibh airgead le saothrú as.  Mar chuid den mbaint, dheintí an lín a thumadh i bpoll uisce, áit a d’fhanadh sé faoi uisce ar feadh tréimhse coicíse.  Deineadh lochán ar leith le freastal ar an ngnó seo agus as seo a thagann an t-ainm ‘Loch an Lín’.”
