The Flax Pond

“In the 1950s and 60s growing flax was very profitable and popular in this area. Part of the harvesting process was water retting which was to immerse the flax in water for up to two weeks.  A special pond had to be dug for this purpose hence the name ‘The Flax Pond’.”
